ON THE SECOND SKIN

 

🇬🇧 ON THE SECOND SKIN - Since I came to Indonesia I began to design and tailor my own dresses, whether I wear them at public events or at home for daily use. I want them to be comfortable, elegant and colorful. The idea came long time ago after I read artist Friedrich Hundertwasser manifesto on fashion about the "Second Skin". What we choose to wear everyday is more than just a dress: it's like an extra skin that contribute to shape the nature of our social identity. In contemporaty society these aesthetic canons are dictated by the trends of commercial fashion and the individual personality is cancealed by the necessity of industrial production. We want to express our character free from the precepts of mass fashion that impose restricted identities. We therefore can forge our own image through making our own clothes as an evoluted children's game and make our life a creative artistic expression. Since I am here I got the opportunity to put this principle in practice and made this little dream true This silk batik styled suit I wore at my speech at Brawijaya University is the first example of this practice. More will follow.

🇮🇹 SULLA SECONDA PELLE - Da quando sono in Indonesia ho iniziato a disegnare e confezionare i miei abiti, sia che li indossi in occasione di eventi pubblici che a casa per uso quotidiano. Li voglio comodi, eleganti e colorati. L'idea è nata molto tempo fa dopo aver letto il manifesto sulla moda dell'artista Friedrich Hundertwasser intitolato "Sulla seconda pelle". Quello che scegliamo di indossare ogni giorno è più di un semplice vestito: è come una pelle che contribuisce a plasmare la natura della nostra identità sociale. Nella società contemporanea questi canoni estetici sono dettati dalle tendenze della moda commerciale che cancella la personalità individuale in favore dalle necessità della produzione industriale. Vogliamo esprimere il nostro carattere libero dai precetti della moda di massa che impone un'identità ristretta. Possiamo quindi forgiare la nostra immagine creando i nostri vestiti come in un gioco di bambini e fare davvero della nostra vita un'espressione creativa. Qui ho avuto l'opportunità di mettere in pratica questo principio e realizzare questo piccolo sogno. Questo abito di seta in stile batik che ho indossato durante il mio discorso all'Università Brawijaya è il primo esempio di questa pratica. Ne seguiranno altri.
